Sestina

There is a certain lake
Up in the far north
It has a special place in my heart
Because of that one night
Ten years in the past
On that warm summer's day

And on that day
Up near that lake
That friend I was with is now in the past
He moved up to that northern
Lake and after that night
We have not spoken. A hole was created in my heart

That hole in my heart
Has been filled with others since that day
But a part of me misses that night
Up near that lake
When my friend and I roamed the north
But all that is in the past

Many years have passed
My heart
No longer resides up north
With my friend on that day
Although I will never see him again, that lake
Is like a shrine to that last night

I can still remember that last night
As I walked past
the lake
My heart
wanting to return someday
But I would not return to that lake in the north

Up in the cold north
In the dark of night
Before the day
Has past
I turn my heart
Toward that amazing lake

That day at the lake is over
But some night I will return
To see my friend up north and fill my heart once again.

Response to Wenderoth & Shelley

I think Wenderoth uses Wendy's as the focus of his poetry because it is both a place where many different kinds of people congregate and Wendy's is a perfect representation of American culture.

Wendy's (and fast food restaurants in general) are one of the few places that has the potential to see all kinds of people from all walks of life. All kinds of income are represented as some people come to Wendy's for the value menu because they can't afford much more while some of those people who have all the money in the world might just drive by, see a sign for a nice crispy bacnonator and decide they really wanted one at that moment. The potential for all these different kinds of people being in the same establishment reacting to and possibly even interacting with each other provides for the potential for some very interesting observations.

Secondly, Wendy's manages to be a very good representation of our culture. Fast food has become a very important part of our life. Even though everyone does not necissarily eat there, the Wendy's symbol and the idea of fast food is known to all. Fast food in general, however, play directly into the need in America for instant gratification. These, along with other aspects of Wendy's can easily be a good outlet for bringing issues in American out into the open.

A man approaches on the road
Every step forward feels colder, lonelier
Like glaciers moving across your heart
He is cloaked and hooded
His garb as black as the shadow across his face

Ever closer he strides
Even colder, lonelier
You can see his face now

Instead there is only two great blue eyes
His breath freezes the summer air around him

His eyes being to burn as if ignited by his freezing aura
His voice pierces your soul
Like the dying screeches of a great bird.

He stops, tower above you.
Infinitely cold, infinitely lonely.
He has arrived.

Dear Teddy,

I received your letter just recently. I really liked your idea about going 3D, although I am really not sure how to go about it. I really hope that my creators will give me that new look soon. I am a little hesitant to undergo a transformation into 3D. I have heard it is very painful and very dangerous. While we are on the topic of makeovers, I believe I can help you with a new look. I agree that it could really help you out. I can show you how to use my programs to make a new and far more colorful version of yourself.

I've tried dealing with that window like you said, but it really is quite tough. It seems to be much more elusive than we had originally anticipated. I could really use your help. I need to gain some sort of tactical advantage. We could do an exchange of services of some kind. I just hope that maybe we can end the assent of this silly apple...

I must go, it seems as if I am needed in the test labs again. Apparently the developers have found more bugs in me somewhere that they want to try to sort out.
